Small ,simple & rustic...i.e. - pretty basic. This little beach hotel is situated at the fishing village of Anakao, Madagascar. What it lacked in mod.cons. it made up for it in charm.
Great for wildlife both outside & inside !!

Sharing this Lantana flower head amicably are two bright butterflies . One is a Monarch (on the left )but the other is unknown to me (but has now been identified as a Red Lacewing ,by Tanya Mass....many thanks ,Tanya).

He was sitting outside the main entrance to the marvellous ruined Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo.This is situated in the Sacred Valley ,Peru. He seems to be able to eke out a living from donations by the many visiting tourists.

........& the more mud the better. This group of Hippopotami were ,collectively, doing what they most love to do.....wallowing & dozing. They were amicably sharing this muddy island ,on the Chobe river ,Botswana ,with many Egyptian Geese.

AKA Taktshang Goemba.............delving into my archives.
This is another shot of this ,the most iconic monastery of Bhutan. This pic shows how it is miraculously perched on a cliff ledge ,some 900 m above the floor of the Paro valley. Stunning views can be had there ,as it is at over 3000 m altitude !!

We were staying at a lodge in the Amazon jungle ,on the Tambopata river,Peru. On our first early morning excursion, we came across this Woodpecker at his/her home high up in the tree trunk .

I noticed that many Peruvian ladies wore their hair in long pigtails, often with some decoration attached. But the ladies on the Uros islands ,lake Titicata, used these Pom-Poms (?) of varying size & colour. This lovely young lady showed a couple of us around her tiny home ,made of reeds.

Can you kneel like this ?

Whilst staying at Aguas Calientes near Machu Picchu ,I wondered around some of the shops ...all aimed at the many visiting tourists. In one shop doorway, I spotted this fine beauty ,in a glass case & poorly lit (hence high ISO) . There was no label ,so I am just assuming it is a local species.
Thanks are due to maricontis & to Cerabilia for the ID .....it is in fact a day-flying moth from Madagascar ,which I now think is ..............Urania (Chrysiridia) Ripheus.
Well, other than it`s not Peruvian & not a butterfly ....I seem to have a pretty accurate title !!

There seems to be a liking for vibrant mixed colours among most Peruvians. Their lovely traditional costumes & these applique `Works of Art` ( blankets ? wall hangings ?) are very striking examples.
This was a market stall in Pisac ,a village in the Sacred Valley.

My thanks to crafty 1 tutu for suggesting that these were kudus & not the closely related bushbucks, as I originally thought . The central one is definitely a male ,as the females of both species do not have horns.

From my archives & a wonderful trip to Bhutan (2009). This lovely young lady was part of a `Song & Dance` troupe (Bhutanese style !!). They were performing at the Thimpu festival held in the courtyard of the Trashi Chhoe Dzong (main monastery).

Driving through the Chobe National Park,Botswana ,we saw a herd of elephants just ahead of us & to one side of the road. So we stopped the vehicle & they stopped moving too. Obviously a bit wary of us ,they hesitated before crossing the road. The little `uns stayed very close to their mothers....almost being trodden on !!!

An air of mystery (?) ,due to the mist or rather low cloud ,at this wonderful archeological site of the Inca empire. There is a vertiginous drop at the edge of the site ,here......so ...take care !

It is not just the big animals ,in Chobe, that you need to be wary of. This little guy is not the sort of visitor you want to find in your boots ,in the morning .

This striking Oncidium hybrid flower was just one of at least a dozen flowers on this specimen. I could not just walk by without taken a snapshot ,when visiting the Eric Young Orchid Foundation ,Jersey.
