I think the light falloff is one of the things that helps here. As I recall I also had a B400 being used on lower power as a BG light. (PS, I didn't own my pocketwizards yet so was using the Alien Bees hard-wired controller connected to both lights. The controller hangs on my tripod and connects to the camera via sync cable.
