This is the stair case in the Residence in Würzburg, Germany. The painting on the ceiling is one of the biggest in the world, with over 600 square meters of painting.
The painting shows the world - as known to Europe in the 18th century - with this side representing Europe.

This is one of the typical Santana houses on the island of Madeira. They are distinctive for the region but have become almost extinct (save for the ones for the tourists) because they are very expensive to keep maintained and very small on the inside. But still very, very beautiful

this is a close up of a house in santana on madeira. it has the traditional color scheme for the region and I really liked the straight lines, so I got in close.

This is the south-eastern most edge of Madeira and when we drove up the weather was just fantastic (while the rest of the island was under heavy clouds).

This valley is named after some nun's who hid there during a pirate attack on Funchal, the capital of the island of Madeira in the 16th century. This is pretty amazing because the valley is hidden away in the midst of several 1,000 meters high mountains and until the 60s there was no road to the valley, only foot paths
