Dark Pink and Gray

The last little light produced a gray sky with a smattering of brilliant pink. I was watching it form and was hoping that it would spread across the sky... but it didn't. Don't perceive that as a complaint, as I would be a pretty sad individual if I complained about experiencing a scene such as this.

I could have brightened this one up, but it wouldn't have captured the drama and mood of the view.

At Sparks Lake near Bend, Oregon.

This was taken last night. I was sitting there looking at these monster clouds hoping that they would turn an awesome red, orange ot pink, but alas, just a hint of color came and went.

Perseid Meteor Shower

Perseid Meteor Shower at Trillium Lake Friday morning, August 13, 2010.

I took 360, 30 second exposures to get this one shot. This is an aggregate of the meteors that fell in three hours last night.

Exposure - 30 seconds x 360 exposures
Aperture - f/2.8
Focal Length - 11 mm
ISO Speed - 2000

Basically - This shot was created by taking 360 exposures and then taking the shots that had meteor's in them out and layering them over each other and masking and merging them into the lower layer. I did each layer one at a time.

This shot did not take into consideration the rotation of Earth during the three hours that I was shooting, thus the lack of a common point of origin. I have since compensated using a time/rotation adjustment and recompiled the layers into this image HERE.

Taken after I resigned myself to the fact that the Northern Lights were going to be a no show. I can't just leave the lake with nothing.

This is one of about three shots that I liked that I took last night while at Trillium Lake.

Please forgive so many shots from this shoot. Let's just call them the Lost Lake Series. : )

My apology to Douglas as well. He and I shot together that night and he took some great shots too. Because I work at my computer... and seem to take so many more photos than your average Flickr person... I may be trumping some of his posts that are similar. After looking at my shots from that night I have another half dozen shots that I'll be processing and storing for future posts. This will be the last from this series for a while.

I'm enjoying this heat. The less clothes that I have to wear the better... umm, never mind. : ) That doesn't sound the way that I meant it.
