Everybody is outside shooting auroras these days in Iceland, due to some extra activity on the sun which causes amazing aurora displays.

This is shot at Þingvellir, being out there all by yourself in the middle of the night in the pitch black with the auroras dancing above you is a pretty awesome experience.

These lava formations are close to lake Mývatn in North Iceland.

I took a walk there during the day in bright sunlight but the bright, sunny mood just didn't seem to fit this place. So I thought to myself that it would be cool to shoot this in heavy fog to make it more mysterious. Lo and behold in the evening thick fog covered everything and I got my shot.

With me as her son she's forced to sit more in front of a camera than she would like, since she really doesn't like having her picture taken.

I went for a short hike up into the mountains this week to a place called Stórurð which is basically a huge pile of rocks that have fallen down from the mountain above, among the rocks are these very blue puddles of water. Unfortunately they where all still covered in snow (I'd recommend hiking up there in august when the snow has hopefully melted) so I didn't get any shots of them but I found this pond in the wetlands leading up to the mountain.

Minutes before and after this shot was taken the whole place was covered in fog and I had about a 5 minute gap to frantically run around and find the right spot for what ended up being the only shot of the day. I think I got the gap in the fog due to good karma since I saved some poor woman's shoe out of a river earlier in the day :)

These iconic mountains are called Dyrfjöll or Door Mountains.
