Can You See Me Now ?

Now that winter is over, if I want to see the albino deer I have to go into the forest and look for them. There are no leaves on the trees yet so it is easy to see Blue Eyes hiding in the brush as I walk by her on the deer trail. She thinks she is hidden but she is not. It was so neat to be 15 feet away from her. Sometimes I think she is as happy to see me as I am to see her.

Albino whitetail deer Blue Eyes was in the posing mood and gave me this amazing closeup of her in all her beauty. Every night my wife and I wait so patiently to see Blue Eyes walk down the deer trail next to our house. Our eyes and hearts open at the first glimpse of her.
First I would like to thank my Flickr contacts and Flickr members for helping us reach 500,000 views, without all of you this would not have been possible, We are so thankful for the many views and comments we have received. Since the wild albino deer account for about half of the many views I thought I would share a photo of wild Albino Blue Eyes as she hunts for something to eat in the meadow. A little story of Blue Eyes is that she is the youngest of the Albinos and the shyest at three and a half years old. I can only get about fifty yards from her and then she will run so I have to hide to get photos of her. I use a 100-400 zoom lens for all my albino photos. Since tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving, but most of all I would like to thank the good Lord for letting us live amongst the wild rare albino deer and to share them with the world.

Albino whitetail deer Blue Eyes on the left, and her mother Suzy, have hidden their baby fawns and have come to the meadow to graze for an hour or two before returning to nurse their fawns. Blue Eyes is four years old now and has spent her entire life near her mother and they are only separated when they have their fawns. A little info about whitetail deer, when a fawn is born if it is a female it will spend its entire life within a mile of where it was born. If it was a male the mother will chase it away the year after it was born as not to inbreed with each other and harm the species. Soon the fawns will be big enough and they will come with their mothers to the meadow and they will become one big happy family again. We have seen this happen over the past 15 years. I hope this helps everyone understand whitetail deer and their lives a little better.
Albino Piebald Blue Eyed Beauty

lifeinthenorthwoods.com posted a photo:

Piebald means 'of different colors; especially: spotted or blotched with black and white.' The Piebald Whitetail deer has white legs and underbelly, and spotted markings into the brown top half. Piebald deer are colored white and brown similar to a pinto pony. Sometimes they appear almost entirely white. This is a genetic condition which affects less then 1% of the deer population. It is a cross between a albino whitetail deer and a brown whitetail deer.
I thought I would share photos of a rare piebald whitetail deer. A friend told me they had one at a place called Pecks Wildwood Wildlife Park in Minocqua, Wisconsin. A place where you can discover and explore the fascinating world of the animal kingdom and wild animals of all kinds. Since piebald deer are so rare, and I have never seen one in the wild, I wanted to see one up close. I sure would love to see one of these beauties running in the meadow some day.
Albino Piebald Blue Eyed Beauty

Albino whitetail deer Blue Eyes walking with her son down the deer trail in a Snowstorm. Picture taken with Canon 50D with a 100x400 L I/S zoom lens. These are wild and free animals and are not pets. If they could see me or smell me I would not be getting this picture. There is nearly 2 feet of snow on the ground and the temperatures are dropping to zero at night. We have to go to great links to hid so we can get shots of these rare and amazing creatures. The long hard winter has begun and we pray the animals of the Northwoods make it through it.
Sleeping Beauty Albino Whitetail Deer in Winter

I have always wanted to get a picture of a deer bedded down in the woods. It is so hard to get close to one bedded down because they lay into the wind and can smell you or hear you before you can get close to them to take a picture. My wife and I were walking on one of our trails when I spotted an Albino deer bedded down in the snow surrounded by brush about 30 yards away. I did not have my camera with me so I hurried home and got it and my 100x400 zoom lens. I returned to the spot where I saw the deer and it was Blue Eyes bedded down taking a morning nap. I got down on my hands and knees and got into an opening so I could get a good picture of her making sure I did not make any noise and spook her. I put my camera on rapid fire which is 6 shots a second and fired away. I got 3 or 4 pictures before she heard the shutter and looked right at me, I kept shooting and after a few more shots she got up and ran away. I was thrilled beyond belief to finally capture an amazing scene like this.
I finally succeeded. This picture was taken at 30 feet with a Canon 40D with a 100-400 mm L I/S F/S 4.5 telephoto zoom lens at F/S 5 at 125th of a sec. ISO 400 on a monopod.
I'm Here For the Greens

It had been over five weeks since we last saw Blue Eyes and now she has returned to the meadow and has a lovely little brown fawn. I have plowed and replanted the meadow with green stuff that deer just love and now every night the meadow is full of deer. I was not lucky enough to get a photo of Blue Eyes fawn yet because I saw it from a long distance away and she still hides it before she comes to the meadow to eat, but I'm sure soon she will bring the fawn with her to get a taste of these greens.
Several weeks ago we heard the coyotes howling all night and the next day we found just the back legs of a poor baby fawn on the trail near the meadow. That is why the deer hide their fawns till they can run fast to escape the predators like wolves, bears and coyotes.
The Albino whitetail deer have returned with their fawns to spend the winter on our land. This is an annual event that my wife and I look forward to each year. They help us get through the long winters with their many visits on the deer trail next to our house. This is Blue Eyes with her brown fawn on a cold winter evening as she checks things out to see if it is safe.

I was walking on our aspen forest trail when I spotted Albino whitetail deer Blue Eyes with a mouthful of aspen leaves. Aspen leaves have a lot of protein and it is one of the whitetail deers favorite foods. She stopped to look at me as she was eating away. Pictures were taken with a Canon 50D with a 100-400 zoom lens.
Your kind comments and faves are greatly appreciated.
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?

I was walking on our aspen forest trail when I spotted Albino whitetail deer Blue Eyes with a mouthful of aspen leaves. Aspen leaves have a lot of protein and it is one of the whitetail deers favorite foods. She stopped to look at me as she was eating away. Pictures were taken with a Canon 50D with a 100-400 zoom lens.
Your kind comments and faves are greatly appreciated.
