First TV Tower of the World now closed

Surprisingly and out of the blue the landmark of the city of Stuttgart, Germany was closed to the public today for fire safety reasons. The TV Tower has no escape route to the outside. Now only technicians are allowed to enter the tower.
Hopefully, they will find a way to solve this problem. I stayed twice on the top of this TV Tower and the view from above is really stunning.

The Fernsehturm Stuttgart (TV Tower Stuttgart) (216.8 m (711 ft)) is the world's first TV tower built from concrete (and prototype for many towers of that kind all over the world).

It is located on the so-called "Hoher Bopser" hill (483 m (1,585 ft) above sea level) in the southern Stuttgart district of Degerloch. After a construction period of 20 months it was placed in service February 5, 1956, by Süddeutscher Rundfunk (today: Südwestrundfunk – SWR). The tower broadcasts several public FM radio stations and transmitted the ARD TV network's analogue service until 2006. The digital television services have moved to nearby Fernmeldeturm Stuttgart. Although controversial at first, it quickly became a well known landmark of Stuttgart and tourist attraction. Das Wahrzeichen der Stadt Stuttgart wurde heute aus Brandschutzgründen ganz überraschend für die Öffentlichkeit geschlossen. Der Fernsehturm hat keinen Rettungsweg ins Freie. Nur noch Techniker dürfen den Turm betreten.
Bleibt zu hoffen,dass sie einen Weg finden dieses Problem zu lösen. Ich war zweimal auf dem Turm und der Blick von dort ist einfach umwerfend.

Der Stuttgarter Fernsehturm ist ein 216,6 Meter hoher Fernseh- und Aussichtsturm in der baden-württembergischen Landeshauptstadt Stuttgart. Der 1956 eröffnete Turm wurde zum Wahrzeichen der Stadt und stellt baulich wie architektonisch den Beginn einer neuen Ära im Turmbau dar, da er als erster seiner Art aus Stahlbeton besteht, einen vom Schaft auskragenden Korb unterhalb der Antenne besitzt und in vertikaler Kragarmbauweise errichtet wurde. Er löste weltweit eine Welle von Turmbauten aus und wurde zum Symbol des Süddeutschen Rundfunks, der damals als Eigentümer dieses Bauwerk in Auftrag gab. Aufgrund seiner herausragenden baulichen Bedeutung erhielt er bereits 1959 einen Architekturpreis und 2009 den von der Bundesingenieurkammer verliehenen Titel Historisches Wahrzeichen der Ingenieurbaukunst in Deutschland. Todtnau is a town in the Black Forest in Baden-Württemberg, Germany and is situated on the river Wiese about 30 km in the south of Freiburg.
Todtnau waterfall, also known as Todtnauberger waterfall or Hang hole waterfall is located between Todtnauberg and Aftersteg, two villages that belong to Todtnau. At this waterfall the water crashes over four steps partly free partly sliding at the depth of total 97 meters. The Todtnau waterfall belongs to one of Germany's highest waterfalls. The highest level measures 60 meters and is thus by far the highest level of the Central German Uplands.

Schillerplatz with Stiftskirche (the Collegiate Church), the Fruchtkasten building and the memorial to Friedrich Schiller.
I would have loved a cleaner sky without so much light pollution, but on and around the square are too many lights.

Schillerplatz is a square in the old city centre of Stuttgart, Germany named in honour of the German poet, philosopher, historian, and dramatist Friedrich Schiller. Schillerplatz stands to the south west of Stuttgart's main square, Schlossplatz.
Schillerplatz is surrounded by the Stiftskirche (the Collegiate Church), the Fruchtkasten building, the Prinzenbau (which now houses the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Justice, the Alte Kanzlei (Old Chancellery) and Altes Schloss (Old Castle).
A street market takes place twice a week on Schillerplatz. The square is also used for major events taking place on Marktplatz (Stuttgart's Market Square) such as the annual Christmas Market. Hidden underneath Schillerplatz's cobblestones is an underground car park.
The late Gothic Fruchtkasten building in the corner of Schillerplatz is now used by the State Museum of Württemberg to house a collection of musical instruments.
At the centre of the cobblestone square is a memorial to Friedrich Schiller which was erected in 1839 by the Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen. Thorvaldsen's statue was the first memorial to Schiller to be erected in Germany.
The square was officially renamed Schillerplatz in 1934 in memory of one of Baden-Württemberg's most famous writers and intellectuals.

From my sons I've got a GPS tagger as Christmas present. Since 2 years I wanted to buy one but I never knew which one I should take. Therefore I'm really happy about this gift!
These days I have tested the tagger and have tried it first in my neighborhood in the late afternoon. The tagger works very well and is easy to handle.
I've taken the shot above during this test walk ... nothing spectacular but I like it somehow and on the left you can see my beloved walnut tree.

The New Palace and the jubilee column (erected between 1841 and 1846) by night viewed through the bandstand from the opposite side of Schlossplatz, the central square in Stuttgart, Germany.

The New Palace (German: "das Neue Schloss", which may also be translated as New Castle) is a building which stands on the south edge of Schlossplatz. The castle is built in late Baroque style.

From 1746 to 1797 and from 1805 to 1807, it served as a residence of the kings of Württemberg. (At other times, the Ludwigsburg Palace, a few miles to the north was the favoured residence of the royal family). The palace stands adjacent to the Old Castle.

The castle was almost completely destroyed by Allied bombing during the Second World War and was reconstructed between 1958 and 1964. During this time most of the inside of the castle was also restored and the building was used by the Baden-Württemberg State Parliament. Today it is used by the State Ministries of Finance and Education. Public tours of the building are only permitted by special arrangement.(Wikipedia)

The former German President (1984 - 1994), Richard von Weizsäcker was born in the New Castle on April 15, 1920.

The town is a popular tourist destination with the population swelling from its usual 22,812 to around 60,000 in summer. The Palace of Narros, located adjacent to Zarautz's 2.8 km long beach, is where Queen Isabella II and Fabiola of Belgium once spent their summer holidays. The beach is known for being the longest in the Basque Country and one of longest of the Cantabrian cornice.

At the end of the 19th Century and beginning of the 20th Century, the popularity of Zarautz as a luxury tourist destination grew, and many well-known people began to holiday there. A number of lavish houses and mansions sprang up, particularly along the beach. Nowadays, many of these buildings have become public buildings or have been demolished and replaced by chic apartment buildings.

Blowing in the wind and the wind blows where he wants
also on the beach of De Haan, Belgium. There you can see the artwork from the Frenchman Daniel Buren in the third Art Triennial at sea with 100 flagpoles up with 100 windsocks. These are the tubes that you also can find on bridges or airports showing the wind direction.
They are candy-striped, like the fabrics of beach chairs in the summer and on my photo they just stand horizontal because of the wind. With his artwork Buren wants to inspire the illusion of a forest on the beach. The visitor can walk around and between them in an oasis of colors.
Through the game of ebb and flood of the North Sea and the light the flagpoles are sometimes small and far away, then large and dense.

De Haan is a municipality located in Belgium in the province of West Flanders. The municipality comprises the villages of De Haan proper, Klemskerke, Vlissegem and Wenduine. Ostend, the nearest large town is 10 km away. It takes about 20 Minutes driving to Bruges. The coastal village of De Haan proper has maintained a low skyline so its many buildings in Belle Époque style are still prominently visible.

Vom Winde verweht und der Wind weht, wo er will,
auch am Strand von De Haan. Dort hat der Franzose Daniel Buren im Rahmen der dritten Kunst-Triennale am Meer 100 Fahnenmasten aufgestellt mit 100 Wetterhähnen daran. Das sind diese Stoffröhren, die auch an Brücken oder auf Flugplätzen die Windrichtung anzeigen.
Bunt-weiß-gestreift, wie die Stoffe von Strandkörben im Sommer, sind sie und auf meinem Foto lässt der Wind sie gerade stramm waagerecht stehen. Buren will mit seinem Kunstwerk die Illusion eines Waldes am Strand erwecken. Der Besucher kann zwischen ihnen herumlaufen und in einer Oase von Farben verrinnen.
Durch das Spiel von Ebbe und Flut der Nordsee sind die Fahnenstangen mal klein und weit weg, dann wieder groß und dicht.
De Haan, ist ein Ferienort und eine Gemeinde in Belgien in der Provinz Westflandern. Von den 12.243 Einwohnern leben ungefähr 5200 im Badeort De Haan.
De Haan liegt direkt an der Nordseeküste. In zentraler Lage im Ort befindet sich ein Haltepunkt der Küstenstraßenbahn Kusttram, welche sämtliche Orte an der belgischen Nordseeküste miteinander verbindet. Ostende, die nächste größere Stadt ist 10 km entfernt. Nach Brügge sind es ca. 17 km.

Rainbow Colors in the Sky - Circumzenithal arc (CZA)

On my way to work I could watching this remarkable cloud picture in the sky this afternoon. I never saw this before and certainly not with such rainbows.
Is there anyone among you who is familiar with cloud images and can tell me what kind of clouds it was? I tried to figure out what kind of shape the clouds is and could find Cirrus vertebratus but don't know if that's correct.

The circumzenithal arc or circumzenith arc (CZA), also called the Bravais' arc, is an optical phenomenon similar in appearance to a rainbow; but it arises from refraction of sunlight through horizontally-oriented ice crystals, generally in cirrus clouds, rather than from raindrops. It forms no more than one-quarter of a circle centered on the zenith and on the same side as the sun. Its colors are from blue on the inside to red on the outside of the arc. It is one of the brightest and most colorful halos. Its colors are purer than those of the rainbow because there is much less color overlap in its formation. The first impression is that of an upside-down rainbow.
The circumzenithal arc has been called "a smile in the sky". It is rarely noticed because it occurs so far overhead, but in fact is relatively common. Cirrus clouds which cause a sun dog can cause a circumzenithal arc when they reach the zenith, if the Sun is low in the sky.
The light that forms the CZA enters an ice crystal through its flat top face, and exits through a side prism face. The refraction of almost parallel sunlight through what is essentially a 90-degree prism accounts for the wide color separation and the purity of color. The CZA can only form when the sun is at an altitude lower than 32.2°.

Auf dem Weg zur Arbeit konnte ich heute Mittag dieses fantastische Wolkenbild am Himmel beobachten. Ich habe so eine Wolkenform noch dazu mit kleinem Regenbogen (kein Regen weit und breit) noch nie gesehen.
Ist einer unter euch der sich mit Wolkenbildern auskennt? Ich habe versucht herauszufinden was für eine Wolkenform das ist und kam auf Cirrus vertebratus weiß aber nicht, ob das richtig ist.

Das ist ein Zirkumzenitalbogen eine der farbenprächtigsten Haloerscheinungen.

Voraussetzung ist - wie bei allen Halos - das Vorhandensein von geeigneten Eiskristallen in der Atmosphäre. Häufig treten sie bei Cirrus- und Cirrostratus-Bewölkung auf. Sie können aber auch bei Eisnebel und bei Polarschnee vorkommen. Ferner können sie an Fallstreifen entstehen, sofern diese aus Eiskristallen bestehen.
Ein Zirkumzenitalbogen ist in etwa ebenso häufig wie ein Regenbogen beobachtbar. Da er sich jedoch nahe am Himmelszenit befindet, wird man selten auf ihn aufmerksam, da diese Blickrichtung für einen Menschen eher unüblich ist. An Tagen, an denen eine Nebensonne sichtbar ist, empfiehlt es sich daher, den Blick nach oben zu richten, denn oft gehen beide Erscheinungen miteinander einher.

Last week I created a gift for me ... October is the month with the most golden colours in nature and it's my birthday ;-). Hope you like it, too! Some of the images are in my stream and some not.
