"During Dec", the forest range officer told me, "it is a Tiger Migration period as the big cat moves from Bandipur to Masinagudi and then to Satyamangalam forest and in summer will return to Bandipur, lower Masinagudi, some parts of Wayanad forests". But these deers didnt give me a hint of any tigers around the area, although i was hoping to meet the big cat eye to eye.

Taken during the 17th Chennai Photowalk. One of the oldest 3 star hotels in chennai with over 100 rooms recently closed due to legal issues. It used to be a favorite hotel with their restaurant open 24/7 and serving hot vada and idly along with excellent mysore bonda and kaapi (coffee).

Now it stands non operational

Turned out good except for those trial version watermarks. If i try those healing brush, it spoils the image even more. So i left it be there.

Photomatix is indeed a good product. Not that i couldnt have achieved this in PS but this was easier.

Valluvar Kottam

On a recent visit to Valluvar Kottam. The rain helped us get this reflection too. Soon to add the HDR of this area.

Wikipedia says this :

The monument was constructed in 1976 in the memory of Thiruvalluvar, the classical Tamil poet and saint who wrote his famous Thirukkurals about 2,000 years before. All the 133 chapters of the Thirukkural which include 1330 verses are inscribed on bas-relief in the front hall corridors.

The construction of Valluvar Kottam is like a temple chariot, and it is a replica of the temple chariot in Thiruvarur. A life-size statue of the saint Thiruvalluvar stands atop the 39 meter high chariot. The auditorium of Valluvar Kottam can accommodate around 4,000 people.

The beautiful and well maintained Ratnagirishwarar temple at Besant Nagar resides at a posh yet calm and quiet locality.

This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva who is the Ishwar of Ratnagiri and he sits here as a lingam. The temple is well maintained and the special feature of the rituals in this temple is that every abhishekam, aradhanas are performed amidst Vedic chanting by a large number of grahasthas trained in Vedic chanting.

During Pradoshams and Shiva Rathiri festivals it draws a crowd of over 3000 devotees. Many kutcheris, pravachanams, special events are conducted here on a regular basis.

Life Insurance in its modern form came to India from England in the year 1818. Oriental Life Insurance Company started by Europeans in Calcutta was the first life insurance company on Indian Soil.

All the insurance companies established during that period were brought up with the purpose of looking after the needs of European community and Indian natives were not being insured by these companies. However, later with the efforts of eminent people like Babu Muttylal Seal, the foreign life insurance companies started insuring Indian lives.

But Indian lives were being treated as sub-standard lives and heavy extra premiums were being charged on them. Bombay Mutual Life Assurance Society heralded the birth of first Indian life insurance company in the year 1870, and covered Indian lives at normal rates. Starting as Indian enterprise with highly patriotic motives, insurance companies came into existence to carry the message of insurance and social security through insurance to various sectors of society.

Bharat Insurance Company (1896) was also one of such companies inspired by nationalism. The Swadeshi movement of 1905-1907 gave rise to more insurance companies. The United India in Madras, National Indian and National Insurance in Calcutta and the Co-operative Assurance at Lahore were established in 1906.

This building now lies uninhabited in Mount Road, Chennai but maintained by LIC of India.
