Unfortunately construction has been delayed and we won't get either of our bears back on schedule. On a brighter note the exhibit is starting to take shape and I think it's looking great!

Found this sitatunga down by the lake. I obviously startled this one but not enough to hide (read below signage). They have the freedom to roam on 37 acres shared by many African hoof-stock.

Help us celebrate Mr. Aquila's 20th birthday. He and his siblings were the first polar bears at the North Carolina Zoo in 1995. Rumor has it that he will be coming home in the spring. That is IF the construction goes well.
All the people in Detroit go by and wish him a very happy birthday!

It always astounds me how they can be so relaxed one moment, and within a few seconds suddenly attack their prey. I had this uneasy feeling I resembled prey to these two.

(Quick update on my parents…Mom is back home tho not resting like she should. We have found help for them so that has reduced our stress somewhat.
I took a MUCH needed break and went to Riverbanks Zoo in South Carolina Tuesday. As most know I love hyenas and RZ is the closest to see them.
I appreciate everyone's well wishes. At this point it's probably 50-50)
