Zion National Park

It's a little over 8 miles to hike the round trip (the route from the bottom), but it felt like more. The trail ends after the steep descent into the canyon. At that point you're on your own to pick your path in or out of the water, over or around rocks and boulders. It's worth the trip though. If you decide to do this hike, make note of where the trail meets the streambed. It's not marked very well and would be easy to miss on the way out.

If you ever visit Zion NP, this hike should be on your list of things to do. One thousand foot walls block a lot of the hot summer sun, but when the sun does shine down into the canyon, the 60 degree water will keep you cool.

Canyonlands National Park - Island in the Sky District

This is a popular spot to photograph the sunrise - for good reason. In addition to an amazing view, the underside of the arch glows red on a clear morning. Below, you can see the White Rim Plateau, approx 1000 ft. down, and the White Rim Road. The Colorado River flows through there somewhere, another 1000 ft. below the plateau. At the top left, is Washer Woman Arch.
