Quality Line OP20 (YN53 ZXA) runs down Westway, approaching the Caterham-on-the-Hill terminus of route 404.

The route terminates here by means of a loop around three sides of a triangle.

You'd think it would be quite rare to get three buses following each other, but I believe this was a common occurrence, and I've certainly seen other photos of the same scenario.

If I remember rightly, the 541 had a driver changeover the the stop in the background, while the 411 was timed at the same time.

Here, Metrobus OmniDekka 492 (YN53 RZE) runs out of service having completed the driver changeover, while MPD 344 (X344 YGU) follows behind on the 541.

Behind that, 494 (YN54 AJU) is on the 411 to Tatsfield.

411 at the Clifton Arms

Surrey CC bus review phase 2 saw the 411 withdrawn, replaced by extra journeys on the 409, and new route 400.

On one of the journeys which extended from Chelsham Common to Tatsfield, Metrobus 494 (YN54 AJU) hangs a right at the boarded up Clifton Arms pub, on the last journey of the day.

Dead route, dead pub

Surrey CC bus review phase 2 saw Caterham Villager services 541 and 542 withdrawn, replaced by the new 509 off peak, and the diversion of peak 409 journeys into 'the Village' development during peak hours.

Not long before the change, the regular bus, 344 (X344 YGU) is seen passing the derelict Clifton Arms pub on the 541. It had its route branding removed a few weeks before the changes.

The pub has since been demolished.

Arriva London South T61 (LJ08 CXR) waits for a car at the now demolished Clifton Arms pub in Caterham-on-the-Hill.

TfL route 466 runs from from Caterham-on-the-Hill to Addington Village via Croydon.

When Arriva took it over, there was huge controversy, as they did not run it as well as previous operator Metrobus, but this has now been sorted.

From 22nd April 2013, stop N at Epsom station re-opened after a good couple of years closed due to the development of the station.

The 408 was able to start at its correct stop, while the E9 moved from Clock Tower stop A back to the station stop.

Previously, the select few journeys on the 516 which continued to Epsom terminated here, but since Excetera took over in September 2012, nearly all journeys run to Epsom and onwards to Kiln Lane Sainsbury's to terminate, and thus don't serve this stop.

From 22nd April 2013, stop N at Epsom station re-opened after a good couple of years closed due to the development of the station.

The 408 was able to start at its correct stop, while the E9 moved from Clock Tower stop A back to the station stop.

As can be seen here, on 5th May, the finishing touches were still being done to the stop, and the benches had yet to be fitted to the public toilet-esque tiling (is it just me?) which adorns the station wall.

489 notice at the Clock Tower

As seen in other photos, Surrey CC had been busy putting up helpful notices around Epsom for the 6th June 2013 changes.

The 489 was extended to Epsom from that date, replacing the old 479 Sunday service in the process. As it runs through Epsom to Kiln Lane Sainsbury's, it cannot serve the "prime" Clock Tower stops out of Epsom towards Guildford (C, B and A), so uses the High Street (stop K) instead (therefore giving it a disadvantage over Sunray's 479 it competes with).

This notice explains that.

Mainly of interest as it uses the combined timetables and bus stop pole Trueform offer, which is quite a rare sight in Surrey.

Possibly the stop served by the most routes in Epsom, after all routes have started their routes from the more 'main' town centre stops, and also the 166 and 293 as they head towards their Epsom General Hospital terminus.

31st May 2013.

Previously the 516, 166 and 293 served stop J, while the 318 used adjacent stop K. K was previously the home of the rather more frequent Metrobus 460/480, but under-used after they moved to the Clock Tower stops in September 2012.

From 6th May 2013, the 516 was moved to stop K, which was also used by the 'new' 489 which was extended to Epsom from the same date. But there was no 516 e-plate up on K's flag on the evening before the changes...

...a couple of weeks later, this was the scene on 31st May, with marker pen doing the job just fine!

After many years of work, the redeveloped Epsom station is now finally completed, and buses were finally able to return to their normal routes on 22nd April 2013.

The development includes a Travelodge, Tesco Express, Costa Coffe and I assume a lot of flats.

This shot more closely shows the station entrance. Not very prominent, and when walking up to it for the first time from where that black taxi is, I actually missed it and ended up outside Tesco. And yes, I did have to get my phone out and look at it before making the U-turn!

After I snapped the 479 in Epsom on the last day of the Excetera 479 Sunday service, I had bags of time to kill before needing to go to Ashtead, so I decided to wander around a rather deserted Epsom. Not a surprise for six o' clock on a Sunday.

I noticed that the 516 no longer served stop J. Previously the 166, 293 and 516 served stop J, while the 318 used adjacent stop K. K was previously the home of the rather more frequent Metrobus 460/480, but under-used after they moved to the Clock Tower stops in September 2012.

From 6th May 2013, the 516 was moved to stop K, which was also used by the 'new' 489 which was extended to Epsom from the same date. This was fully covered at the stop with timetables etc, but on the day before the changes, the 516 e-plate/sticker had yet to be applied.

This sort of thing, I guess, is why they insist on having Surrey CC stops in the town centres, even when served by TfL routes; I can't imagine TfL going into this level of detail for the non-TfL routes.
