Hoity Toit Beer Joint

We call 'em like we see 'em here in Texas: the Hoity Toit Beer Joint in New Braunfels, Texas, is a quality establishment, judging by the number of big ol' trucks out front even on a weekday afternoon.

Shiner is my beer of choice if I'm in a place like this. However, my Dad and I had more errands to run, so we made do with Merlot on the front porch of the Homestead Rancho later in the day!

Jeff McKissack, a mail carrier in Houston, Texas, transformed a small suburban lot near his wood frame house into The Orange Show in honor of his favorite fruit. A Gretna landmark. The heart sign didn't have anything to do with the Po-Boys shop, a fact that eluded me for two years, even though I drove by the heart twice a week. Near the West Bank Expressway and DeGaulle Boulevard. Circa 2002

The Oasis Motel--never the best place to lay your weary head--circa 2002. Badly battered by Katrina's winds, it was still standing, barely, in 2006. Current status unknown. Located on the West Bank Expressway feeder road just a few blocks below the Oakwood Plaza (which was ransacked after Katrina).
