going through some of my old photos today and found this contact sheet from a skate demo I photographed in 1986. amongst those in attendance were Steve Caballero and Lance Mountain. it was snowing a bit that day and wasn't really optimal skateboarding weather, but that didn't stop anyone. these guys were our heroes and they wouldn't let us down.

I also posted this on my facebook and was surprised to see how many of my friends were there...friends that I wouldn't meet until later in life. for many kids around the Denver area, this demo was a defining event and their first real contact with the skateboard culture.

Colorado is where I was born, it's probably where I'll die. it's hard to stay away after feeling the Rocky Mountain high. :)

this image was made using two photos taken at the same time of day, from the same vantage point several months apart. the first one was taken in the autumn and the second one today after a light snowstorm.

I don't say this often, but you really should press "L" for the full effect. ;)

got a new camera today. I'm a bit ambivalent about it at the moment. it shipped to me with the package already opened and the image count started at 71. I assume someone else bought it, used it for a day or two, and then returned it. so far it seems to work flawlessly so I'm not sure if I should send it back or not. I was really looking forward to opening the fresh packaging and holding the untouched, virgin body. it doesn't feel right to return it just 'cause I didn't get to open the package first. I mean, I return things all the time. as long as it works, I should be happy with it...right?

The Alma King is the largest known rhodochrosite crystal; it was found in the Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado. It is on display in the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.

The Incas believed that rhodochrosite is the blood of their former rulers, turned to stone, therefore it is sometimes called "Rosa del Inca" or "Inca Rose".

immediately after drinking a magic potion, I was transported to a snowy field where I met this fearsome jackalope named Miles. he's quite amazing. he can convincingly imitate any sound, including the human voice. he uses this ability to elude pursuers, chiefly by using phrases such as "there he goes! that way!".
