I really do need to find out the history behind these steps. There are defensive bunkers on the island so it might be from one of those, although they're usually concrete rather than brick. Whatever, this is certainly a landmark of East Mersea.

I've photographed them before but not with the tide at this level. Next attempt has to be higher tide on a rough day - that'd be good!

The more I look at this the more I like it, so it goes on the list of contenders. What I'd really love, if the tides and weather would care to cooperate, is to get this at really high tide when the water floods the saltmarsh, leaving just the tree and the old hedgeline visible. That might happen towards the end of the week. Or it might not. (the answer was 'not' - the tide's not high enough at the moment)

Sunshine and clouds, they promise. Humph.

This was taken in Tollesbury where the old sea wall has been breached. These 'fields' are now flooded by the tide, leaving the rather ghostly hedges and trees.

I know the horizon is short of the thirds line but this is more of a test shot. If I reshoot it with a better sky I'll make sure it's spot on.

This SOOC, by the way, no processing at all.

This has obviously been cropped but otherwise SOOC. Not even levels adjusted or anything. I used an ND grad to darken the sky. The main question is whether the lack of focal point is a problem. I have another shot with a man and child on the thirds intersection but it's not as crisp and not as dramatic.

Dedham, Essex, just along the river from Flatford Mill 'n all that. The bit of dead vegetation to the left was just out of reach, but I could reshoot this and take something with me to fish that out of the way. It's a skyless shot, which makes finding a good time not quite as hard as some others, so possibly a useful fallback.

More of a test shot/fallback than anything else. I need to check when high tide is over the coming weeks and see if I can catch some better light. If I can, this might be a possibility.

As Sherry said the other day, remember to look behind you. I was looking at the frost on the dock seeds, looked behind and saw this. I have softened it a little but otherwise it's as shot. So pretty.

Good grief! I actually managed to shoot what I planned.

It was more difficult than expected though as the frost melted very quickly once the sun hit it. I'd see something, get myself sorted out then look again and the shot had gone.

And my fingers froze. :(

A quick substitute of shots for this week - I love this. It's all in camera, with just a little adjustment in PS as it was shot with an ND filtre and I didn't get the exposure quite right.

I don't often say it but will with this one - best viewed on black.

Not the shot I planned for today - the overcast evening sky has scuppered that. Instead, then, we have the steps leading down from the sea wall at Goldhanger. The idea was to contrast the hard lines of the steps and wall with the movement of the sea. Or something like that.

Today was an odd day. I actually didn't really want to go to Marks Hall - just feeling a bit flat - but in the end was glad I did. The quality of the light this afternoon was gorgeous, and I found more than I expected. I like several of the shots I took but chose this for View 52 as it combines the hoverfly with the stunning colours of the Michelmas daisy. Hard to beat, really.
