Experimenting with effects in Adobe Lightroom. The blue sky was darkened to a near black, then the image was converted to greyscale, then a subtle blue split toning was applied. I love how easy Lightroom makes it to do this kind of stuff... 5 minutes in total, instead of faffing about for half an hour in Photoshop with selections and the like.

I don't think I'll ever get tired of taking pictures of the Sydney Opera House: its geometric patterns and curves offer endless possibilities. Here, the late afternoon light has made the tiles look far more golden than usual.

Sydney Observatory

Elements of this Observatory, now a museum of astronomy, date back to the signal station erected on the remains of Fort Philip in 1840, but the majority of the current building dates from 1858. Interestingly, by 1892, there was already concern that the proposed railway approaches for the future harbour bridge would interfere with the telescope’s operation.

An astrographic telescope was transferred to Observatory Hill at the corner of Beecroft Road and Pennant Hills Road (Observatory Park) in 1899 until 1930, when the telescope was returned to the main observatory.

The site was officially occupied by the Government Astronomer until 1982 when the increasing problems of air pollution and city light made work at the observatory more and more difficult and the building was converted into a museum.

The diminutive "Sirius" is one of Sydney's inner harbour ferries, often called the "First Fleet" class, as they are all named after ships that sailed in the First Fleet.
