With it's close proximity to the world famous " Staatsoper " the Hotel Bristol has provided luxurious accomodation to more than it's fair share of showbiz stars and famous politicians throughout it's long and illustrious history.

The hotel is named after the British town of Bristol.

These statues form part of the monumental fountain the " Pallas - Athene - Brunnen ". Situated right in front of the Austrian parliament building this impressive sculpture would not look out of place were it to be found in Athens itself.

The Staatsoper in Vienna opens from the 1st September until the 30th June and offers an incredible 50 operas and 20 ballets during this time. In order to cope with such a demanding repetoire it relies on over 250 technical staff who work throughout the night and early morning to ensure that the stage is set for each performance.

For anyone visiting Vienna a night at the opera is not to be missed. The Volksoper opened its doors to the public in 1898 and can seat up to 1,337 people. It has attracted many of the world's top operetta performers and has enjoyed huge success.

The general feeling about this building when first built was " hideous beyond measure ". Nowadays however it is regarded as a magnificent example of Vienesse " Art Nouveau " architecture.

A short walk uphill from Schonbrunn Palace located in the famous Schlosspark is the Gloriette. Empress Maria Theresia had it built in 1775 as a " temple of glory " and viewpoint. It was however used as a dining room for the monarchy and today it houses a splendid cafe from which you can enjoy a beautiful view.

The Haas Haus, in the heart of Vienna city, is located in the shadow of some of Vienna's oldest and greatest architectural masterpieces. This building – in a postmodernistic style – was finished in the early 90’s and designed by the Austrian architect Hans Hollein. It is controversial because of the big contrast with the historical cathedral ( Stephansdom ) in front of it, therefore the intrusion of a modern glass-and-concrete building met with great resistance from the local population.
