In response to a recent detailed posting on the Mersey Rails group, here is an image of the line going into the dock complex in front of Waterloo warehouse on the dock road in Liverpool. Taken in the early 1980s, the signal had been left after the line closed some years later, and presumably was controlled by a signalbox or possibly ground frame inside the dock wall.

MV Royal Iris enters Latchford Locks near Warrington on Sunday 23rd September 1990 with a return Manchester Ship Canal cruise from Salford Docks (now the home of ‘Mega City’) to the Pier Head in Liverpool. An off duty railwayman seems to be sporting an interesting comb of HV anorak, with Slayer T shirt…..Chic!. The participants on the previous day’s outward trip are captured here -

472xx sat in the Up Goods Loop at Holywell Jct, on a Saturday in 1993 with the Amlwch - Ellesmere Port train, conveying empty Liquid Chlorine tanks from the Associated Octel plant on the Isle of Anglesey. This was one of the final workings of this train, the running unusually on a Saturday due to a derailment on the Amlwch branch the previous day.

NRM Class 502 EMU arrives at Ormskirk on Sunday 20th September 1987 during a tour of the Northern lines section of the Merseyrail system. The emergency connection between the Liverpool – Ormskirk and Ormskirk – Preston sections is still in situ, although it had been many years since it had last seen use.

25161 stands at Aintree station during Sunday engineering works in the early 1980s. Note the canopy is still in situ on platform No.1, together with the original LMS concrete lamp posts on platform No.2.
