An old motel sign along U.S. Highway 2 outside of Havre, Montana.

U.S. Highway 2 is by no means Route 66, but many of the scenes beckon to a time and place before America traveled by Interstate. This sign I found on the way to Havre is just one example.

Early morning breakfast at Mickies Dairy Bar in Madison, Wisconsin.

I took this while shooting a piece for 'Madison Magazine'. This scene reminded me of a painting by Gottfried Helnwein called "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" that featured Marilyn Monroe, Humphrey Bogart, James Dean, and Elvis Presley eating and drinking coffee at a diner.

An aging and decaying building that used to be Kohl's Food Emporium on East Washington Avenue in Madison, Wisconsin.

Another relic of Madison's past that is no longer there. Madison evolves so quickly, there are so many photo ops for those who just want to record the city's decaying past.
