The Queen of England II visits Kentucky for the Kentucky Derby. She arrived in Lexington, KY the day before and where they parked the plane she came in on was right where you could walk up and take as many pictures as you wanted.

This "Triple-7" is seen parked on the ramp at Lexington's Bluegrass Field. You can see the terminal behind the airplane. This isn't the Queen's first trip to Lexington as she keeps a number of her horses here, but it's the first time in quite some time. I was just glad I could get a picture before she sped off to another destination. I'm digging through my old photos to see if I have anything interesting, so bare with me here.

They always come in for the Yearlings sales at Keenland Race Course in Lexington, KY. The sales are in the Fall and one in the Spring before the races really get started. They used to fly in two of their 747SP's, but now it appears to just be one single 747. It was always neat seeing the Royal Family's airplane parked right here next to Versailles Road every year. Them being here on 9-11-2001 became the center of a conspiracy theory about September the 11th. The Royal Families of Middle Eastern countries really love their horses. The United Arab Emirates Royal Family owns a massive horse farm located on Frankfort Road north of Versailles, Kentucky. It is absolutely one of the most gorgeous farms you'll ever see with horse barns that have chandeliers in them. Simply unreal!

Here they are seen about to taxi out to the active and leave for Washington. In Washington, they'll refuel for the trip across the pond. The runway at Lexington isn't long enough for a fully loaded 747 to take off or land on, so they fill up with enough gas to get them to Washington D.C. and then go home from there.

I may be in the minority here, but I freakin' love the Sun Country livery! Looking great here on a cold March late night in Bowling Green, Kentucky. It's here as a charter for a Iowa college basketball team in town for the NCAA tournament.

This is the special "25th Anniversary" jet with the sticker proudly displayed on the nose.

A perfect textbook landing at Southern Illinois Airport ironically. In town for the SIU Aviation Career Day. My thanks to all the staff and faculty of SIU's Aviation Department for their hospitality and help this day. It was a huge success for the university, the visitors, and the airport!! My thanks as well to United Airlines for their welcoming spirit and their generosity! Thank you for extending "The Friendly Skies" down to me, my wife, and the university!

Pulled out a little to show the Smoky Mountain backdrop at this airport. Very scenic and very gorgeous regardless of the time of year. In the background is Spence Mountain with Spence Field on the summit.

Spence Field is a highland meadow in the Great Smoky Mountains, located in
the Southeastern United States. It has an elevation of 4,920 feet (1,500 meters) above sea level. (See: [1]) The Appalachian Trail traverses the field, and a backcountry shelter just off the trail provides an overnight stopover for thru-hikers.

Like much of the Smokies crest, Spence Field lies along the Tennessee-North Carolina border, between Blount County and Swain County. It rises 3,000 feet above Cades Cove to the north and 3,300 feet above Fontana Lake to the south. The "field" spreads out atop the crest, covering approximately 200 acres (0.8 km²).

Two tour bus loads of kids and adults from Iowa State University. You can see the ghostly image of the last batch of alumni getting ready to board the plane prior to departure. Sun Country has one of the most interesting liveries around the US!

On the ramp at Bowling Green, Kentucky. This airport is very capable of handling 737's, 757's, and other smaller aircraft. They do see some throughout the college sports season but do not have reguarly scheduled flights to anywhere in the country. Co-Mar is the big FBO on the field. Co-Mar is owned by the late Cornelius Martin, a friend of my family.

From the summer archives, this scruffy looking 757 was in Nashville for a day. Still, it's not often we see "Ryan International" here in Nashville. They are more common up around the Fort Campbell area with troop deployments and troop return flights. And even then, it's usually on their 767's.

This is still flying according to Airfleets. But there aren't many photos of it in 2009.
