Wild Mustang

Matthew Crowley Photography posted a photo:

Sometimes I get a little too hasty when processing photos and don't give them the attention they deserve in post. I am not apologetic about using Photoshop to enhance photos either. Ansel Adams, spent countless hours in the darkroom to get the photos where he wanted them and would sometimes create multiple versions of the same print until he got it right. I am not claiming to have the talent that Adams had in even his pinky finger but I think it leads to a good point.

What we see when we take the photo is not necessarily what our camera sees. Sometimes the subject is enhanced in our mind by our imagination, but the capture is not necessarily the end-game for the image. Ansel would have absolutely loved Photoshop, I think, if he had it at his disposal. Could you picture what he might have come up with if he had Camera RAW and the Silver Efex Pro Plugin?

Here is an example where I took the RAW file back into Photoshop and processed it multiple times at multiple exposures to get the highlights and lowlights where I wanted them. I returned to reprocess this image as I will be entering this photo into a competition for transportation for my photography club on Thursday. I really wanted the car to pop and explored some tutorials on post processing cars for promo ads.

This was our rental car during our stay in San Francisco by the way. I originally picked a compact car and had a coupon for a free double upgrade. When we got the the car rental office, the lady gave us the choice between a Hyundai Sonata and a Ford Mustang convertible for the same price. It was a tough choice for sure ;-)

We parked at an overlook for the Pigeon Point Lighthouse to be there to catch the sunset. There was already a group of photographers there waiting for the same thing. One of them looked over and saw our rental sitting all pretty by itself with that nice coastal background and started snapping off shots of it. I naturally thought this was a good idea and followed suit.
