an old structure, i *think* it was once a pump house, standing neglected in a field near school.

somehow seems like an appropriate image this morning, having just seen the news that the request for injunction in the Point Reyes oyster farm case has been denied -- which is one more step in a long series of the NPS eliminating working landscapes and the people working them. feeling very sad this morning.

i love the shape of the chimneys on my landlords' house, like sentinels somehow!

and funny, this morning everywhere around us to the west & south is wrapped in thick coastal fog, but the sky is clear here -- i think the hills between us and the coast must be higher than average? truly a perfect location!

hurrah!! today is the official launch of the brand-new sepia-esque polaroid film, called PX film, by The Impossible Project -- which i was lucky enough to test out last month.

congratulations, TIP, and thank you for making such an amazingly good film -- and for including me in the process! i was truly honored to have two of my test shots (including this one) chosen for exhibition at their press event today (in this photo, the print of this image is just behind the speaker's head!)

absolutely cannot wait to shoot more of this stuff!!

incidentally, they sent us two slightly-different formulations -- this (formula 43) was the more black-and-white of the two, and much more fragile -- i will post some samples of the more sepia version (formula 40) later today

the property i now live on is a 12-acre pinot noir vineyard, but before they put the grapes in, it was an old apple orchard -- thankfully they left a number of trees standing all around the two houses, they are wonderfully gnarled and moss-covered and full of character...

we spent the weekend at cissie's friends' house in Pasadena, a simply gorgeous place... a great deal of our time there was spent here, sitting in their garden by the pool, doing nothing at all...

after spending four days in portland at an environmental history conference (and driving 1550 miles to and from, only about 10 of which were on interstates), it feels awfully good to be home!

(this is the roofline of my landlords' house, not mine, but it's my view out the front door...)

unrelated: i will be gone all day, racing my little sailboat in the fabulous Three Bridge Fiasco race -- if you are in SF, go check out the marina green/fort mason area (or at least try to get a glimpse of the bay) between 9:30-11ish, there will be something like 350 boats starting this crazy race -- including mouette and me, so look for the little blue boat!
