This shot got a commendation in the Landscape photographer of the year competition. I am pleased with that. The winning shot was a cracker by Emmanuel Coupe of the Old Man of Storr.

I had the Knapps all to myself on friday morning. It had the only bit of mist anywhere around as it's private little ecosystem came up trumps for me again.

Here in the Uk we were given a public holiday to celebrate the wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton.

I took the holiday and set off at 5am to catch another Knapps sunrise.

The photgraphs are pleasing but, Oh the taking of them was a joy. I haven't had this much fun since I last got a day to shoot, and that was over a year ago.

And so: Sincere thanks must go to The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. God bless them.

I've run out of titles for this place. No doubt there'll be a few more throughout the year, as I never seem to be able to go anywhere special with my camera. So I'll just keep making the best out of what I can get.

The sun rises lighting up the Old Man of Storr. One quick hail shower later and this landscape was transformed in a matter of minutes.

It was -9 celsius as the sun was rising, and the light wasn't too great. So I did my best to use the conditions. That meant walking out onto the loch and hoping the ice wouldn't break. This shot was taken lying flat on the loch.
I did the same thing at Loch Ba later in the day. The ice up there made much less creaking.

I had set my alarm incorrectly, and was awake a full hour too early. Even worse; I was dressed and on my way before I noticed.
I took the opportunity to take a few shots. I climbed a small hill dragging my camera and working clothes through the jaggy bushes. I got to the top in time for the sunrise and, had to hurry back down.
A shortcut or two later I stood on a wall and jumped from it across a wee burn and a barbed wire fence. Can you guess what happened?
Probably not.
I cleared the burn and the fence and landed perfectly on my feet on the ice encrusted marsh beyond.... ....I was in it up to my knees.
Heaving and struggling eventually got me free but, it was a very uncomfortable day at work. ;-)
