Taken from the Staten Island Ferry looking up into the mouth of the East River. Behind the New York Waterway vessel is the Brooklyn Bridge, and behind that, the Manhattan Bridge. The buildings behind the bridges are on the Lower East Side of Manhattan.

Alligator

Alligator in captivity. Green Cay Nature Center, Florida. Taken through glass with a B+W circular polarizer.

I love color, and as a result recently began studying color theory. This picture is my first experiment into using what I've learned about color in my photography. I sampled the dominant hue in the alligator, and then applied the opposite color on the color wheel to the foreground and background to create the maximum amount of color contrast between the subject and the rest of the image. I think it made the alligator stand out much more, since in the original picture, the rock and the background were much closer to the color of the alligator. The original was a much flatter looking picture.

Speeding Through Wall

The Number 3 express train speeding through the Wall Street Station in New York City.

I mounted the camera on a Gorillapod sitting on the platform, locked up the mirror, set my flash to second curtain, and triggered the shutter remotely for a half-second exposure.

View from the Drain

A view from the drain of a metal faucet and handles as seen through a wide angle lens with the camera placed at the bottom of the sink pointing upward into the tap. I thought it would be an interesting point of view. What I liked just as much about this image was the reflections -- in each of the three metal structures you can see reflections of the other two (and the faucet also reflects itself) . And you can see reflections of me holding the camera in all three!
