Using the natural light in my photos is something I couldn't do without. It's my "thing," so to speak.

I didn't shoot this photo today, but I could have had I had the chance to!

And might I add that I REALLY dislike the new Flickr format. It hurts to look at it and I can't find my way around nearly as easily as the old version. Nice of them to switch it on us without warning.

this happened today

The Morton Arboretum conducted controlled burns today to clear out invasive plants and clutter prior to the spring growing season. I trekked through a section of woods that they burned, and things were still smoldering (there were signs posted telling people not to be alarmed by the smoke but to report any concerns). I found this old, singed oak leaf at the end of the path, and it caught my eye because of the way the sun lit it up. To me it looks like a flame, mimicking the fire that had swept through just hours earlier.

I really didn't know what I'd try to get for today's theme. With a crystal clear, blue sky, I did know the sun would be involved somehow. Then I saw these ox-eye daisies growing on the path and I felt I could make a little magic by getting really, really low. I'm happy with the result!

Once again, I've had a photo chosen by Amanda Fraser of Bellakee J Photography to appear as a feature in a book she's making from weekly themed entries. Week 8's theme was "square" and my square crop of these leaves and sunshine made the cut. It's humbling to be included with so many other fantastic photographers' images.

I knew this would happen. I wasn't awake early enough for the sunrise, so I waited all day for a sunset photo. All day long, the sky was crystal clear, beautiful blue. Then, as the afternoon turned to evening, the sky got hazy and cloudy. So I did the best I could. It's the closest we had to a sunset today, shot about an hour before actual sunset (at which time the sky was completely grey and dark).

Tuesday we had the biggest snow of the winter (which is ironic, considering winter's just about over). Last Sunday was much different. There wasn't a cloud in the sky all day, which made it easy for me to play with the sun. The four hours I spent walking with my camera was not enough time at all.
