Solar Storm - Reykjanesviti, Iceland

orvaratli posted a photo:

I know I am bit late with the solar storm the other day. It´s been 9 days since now but I have luckily been very busy photographing other things and not had much time to do much editing and posting.

This solar storm and the conditions to photograph it where perfect. Lots of snow on the ground, no wind, clear skies, no moon and lots of Aurora. Its is a once a year combo.

Reynidrangar Waves near Vík, Iceland

orvaratli posted a photo:

During my two photo tours this summer Reynisdrangar was a must photograph location. Unfavorable weather led to mixed results but this is my favorite shot from the two stops there.

Access to the beach below the pinnacles themselves was impassable because of high tides. Even though it was a bit frustrating shooting the rocks that we where suppose to climb over turned out to be great fun and the result surprisingly interesting.

For more details and images on this years summer photo tour check out my recent blog post

Pinnacles of Vík í Mýrdal

orvaratli posted a photo:

Here is another one from a great session at Vík.

After seeing alot of images from Vík taken during summer, I am convinced that winter is the time to shoot here. The dramatic midday sunset behind the pinnacles happens only this time of year.

I parked my car at the east end of the beach. When I saw the sun creep below the clouds I realized that I was at the wrong end of it because I wanted the sun behind the pinnacles. I ran across the beach only to be met by a river midway. I either had to run inland to find a bridge or cross the river. I decided to sacrifice comfort to save time and got pretty cold and wet.

But the results where worth it.

One of the most rewarding thing about this session was that this image and the previous one needed almost no post processing. They where like this out of the camera.
