Was looking at some old shots originally processed in HDR and thought i'll revisit without much post-processing to see what they looked like.
Compare this to the HDR version below, which I still prefer probably. Looks shinier!

Back to shots of China .. and back to school!
A series to show some of the impressive modern buildings around the campus of the Normal College (师范学院) in Zunyi, Guizhou province, southwest China.
More than 10,0000 students/teachers live on campus.. so it wasn't the easiest place to take HDR shots with (almost) no one in the frame!
This is a series of old shots I took last year and that i still had in my D80 - which I lost there and recovered a couple of weeks ago ;-) I'll try and get round to posting new stuff in the next few days hopefully!

Back in the West, but here's a shot i took this weekend in Beijing.
I made the most of a rare clear sky to take a shot of the futuristic Beijing Opera building, officially called National Centre for the Performing Arts (or National Grand Theatre in Chinese 国家大剧院).
You enter the building by an hallway that goes underneath the artificial lake that surrounds it.
And it's no surprise that the locals call it "The Egg"!

Straight out of camera.
I thought I would add some overall contrast, burn the top strip to replicate the frame at the bottom, dodge to recover some of the blownout highlights around the Sage, and crop out some of the right part of the frame. In the end I decided to just do nothing and leave it as it was.

The owner of one of the local street market stalls kindly let me set up my tripod behind his stall on the river front and also told me that the building you can see to the right of the Sage was filmed in the movie "Get Carter". Apparently they threw someone off one of its windows in the film.
