Business Meeting

Stopped by at the Belltown Pub in Seattle to meet up with my (photographer/director) friend, Mike Folden. We always get into it really deep as far as how we're running our businesses and what we can do to improve. I love these types of meetings.

Mike was also instrumental in deciding to shoot film this year which ultimately spawned my OneRollFifty2 project of which this is a shot for. See more of Week 5 shots on my blog here.

Missed Opportunity {Explored}

Recently got my 17-40mm lens back as a friend was borrowing it. I noticed the sun was amazing on the drive home today so right when I got home I packed all my photo gear and headed to the beach.

The title of the image is valid because I arrived JUST after the sun had gone beyond the horizon.

Leading Sunset {Explored}

I returned home from work today to find my new Lowepro bag that has been sent to me to review. The clouds were doing incredible things so I decided to get my first day of experience with the new bag. Packed my landscape kit, headed out to the nearest shoreline, and started clicking the shutter.

I walked around these things for quite a bit trying to find the best angle that would compliment leading lines as well as the rule of thirds. I think I did pretty good for both.

This was created using a Lee 3 stop hard edge graduated neutral density filter.

One of my favorite shots from a recent wedding I photographed. The idea for the shot came from my second shooter and fellow flickr'ite Ian Ludwig.

The sun was still pretty high in the sky as you can see we had to have them hold the parasol pretty low to get that perfect shadow.

Hawthorne Bridge

I really wanted to get some shots of the various bridges right in downtown Portland this weekend. We were so busy that I never got a chance until just before we left. I told Sarah that we HAVE to stop at at least one before we head back to Washington.

We ended up stopping at Hawthorne Bridge right off the freeway in Portland as it was one of the more picturesque ones I could find.

This was created with a 30 second exposure and using the Lee 10 stop Big Stopper as well as a Lee 3 stop, hard-edge, graduated neutral density filter to add a little more drama to the sky. Post production was very minimal that just consisted of some dodging in PS and selective sharpening.

PDX in October

This weekend, Sarah and I traveled south to Portland to hang out with my aunt and her friends. Turns out she has many friends with nice houses. Equals great photographic opportunities for me.

This was shot on the Willamette River from an amazing house boat. The sky was overcast and I was able to use some filters and Lightroom to really bring this image out.

A Lee 10 stop Big Stopper was used as well as a 3 stop hard edge graduated neutral density filter.

Looking Forward

This day I was walking toward a favorite photo location with my camera on a tripod. As I was walking, I decided to take some slightly slower shutter speed images while walking to get that motion blur.

To get this shot, I actually turned on my camera's 10 second timer, hit the shutter, then flipped the tripod upside down in my hands. This left my camera about 6 inches above the ground and upside down as I was continuing to walk. I later flipped the image back to right side up in Lightroom.

The image does have a decent amount of Lightroom and Photoshop edits on it as well.

Image of sarah shot from a very low perspective on Rialto Beach in the Olympic Peninsula, Washington state.

I metered for the exposure before hand, then shot this image without looking through the viewfinder. After desaturating it a bit, I really like it.

I could not think of an appropriate enough name for this image.

This was taken 2 years ago when Sarah and I went to New York City. This was also the trip that I proposed to her in Central Park. This image was taken from the Top of the Rock.

As this was a vacation at the time, I wasn't really thinking about the shot I was taking here and what is missing from the skyline.

Now this image means a lot more to me, as we all reflect back on that historic day 10 years ago.

Unfortunately, Sarah and I never made it to the financial district and the ground zero memorial. If I ever go back, that will be the first place on my list to visit.

Kingston Ferry

I'm not sure I've ever done a black and white landscape shot. 3 cheers for the first one :)

This was taken using the 10 stop Big Stopper from Lee filters. The exposure was a nice 300 seconds, that's 5 minutes to you and I.

Northwest Rockfest

A shot of System7 from last weekends Northwest Rockfest at the Evergreen State Fair. A total of 8 bands played for 8 hours and I was there shooting every one of them.

Bands were: Jar of Rain, Arisen From Nothing, Quickie, Nether, Syztem7, Klover Jane, Superfekta, and Riverbend.
