Berliner Dom

This is a photograph of the famous Berliner Dom, an Evangelical church built between 1895 and 1905. The church stands on the river Spree on museum island in the Mitte district of Berlin. I decided to take a photograph of this building from a more unusual angle as all the pictures tend to be from the front.

This is a photograph of the stunningly beautiful Charlottenburg Palace in Berlin. I'd never heard of this place before, as all tourists head for the Brandenburg Gate. However, I was told about this place and decided to give it a visit. A great location and superb building

Golden Gate Bridge

This is perhaps a more atmospheric shot than I'm used to but I captured this image in the evening, just before sunset. It had been a foggy day along this stretch of the bay and the mist was not completely cleared. I used the NDX1000 10 stop filter to enhance to colors and texture.

This is another scene from the beautiful river Wear. The building on the water's edge is a museum of archeology; which sits at the foot of the foundations of the Durham Cathedral. The long exposure enabled me to gain a smooth water effect and enhanced the reflections.

Blue Hour Marina

Taken during the blue hour over Dubai marina. I decided to use the bridge and walkway to frame the scene. The buildings opposite are apartments, though I suspect some are businesses as well.

Not much processing for this shot; it's almost as it came out the camera. I just added USM and a little contrast. The scene shows the sun rising over the hills of Krabi, in Southern Thailand.

The Clyde Arc

This is a photograph of the Clyde Arc bridge spanning the Clyde river in Glasgow, Scotland. Despite the brightness of the scene it was absolutely pitch dark where I was standing and had to operate my camera by touch, not vision; as I couldn't even see it !!!
The river was calm that night and so gave me a chance to get a nice reflection.

The Bridges of Berlin

This is a photograph taken on the banks of the river Spree in Berlin. The bridges span this part of the river and connect to the Paul Lobe Haus building to the right, a legislative building close to the Reichstag. The Dome of the Reichstag can be seen in the distance. I used the 10 stop B+W filter (NDX1000) for this shot as the light was strong. It was my last day, so I had to get as many shots in as I could!!!

Power in Berlin

This is a photograph of the Reichstag in Berlin. It was built between 1884 and 1894 as part of Bismark's expanding empire. It was a very cloudy day when I shot this one, so appologies for the grey look to the scene.

Budapest as seen from the Old Town district of Buda, up on the hill. Notice the absence of tall buildings across the city. The cathedral on the skyline is St Stephen's Basillica, another tourist destination in this marvellous city.

A shot of the Chain Bridge, featuring the old town district of Buda. The church on the hill can clearly be seen in this sunset composition. This was taken, needless to say, from the Pest side of the city.

This is a photograph of Dubai Creek. This area contains the Old Town and features a less high tech part of the city state. There are no bridges in this immediate area, so crossing the creek is done by boat. This scene feature some of the older high rise buildings and one of the brightly lit tourist boats that cruise these waters.

Third sunset shot from a different location of Manuel Antonio beach, Costa Rica. The stones seem volcanic to me and are black in color. It was hard to get much detail out of them but the sun set illuminated them nicely.

Flight of the Hummer

Dear Flickr folk, please see posted today a photograph of a humming bird, taken in the Monteverde National Park/Reserve and rainforest of Costa Rica, Central America.

I seriously underestimated how difficult it would be to photograph these birds. They really do move as fast as the speed of light. This must have been my 20th attempt to get this shot. Photographing this bird was like photographing a flying insect. They never stay in one spot for long. I saw this one hovering for a brief second and fired off the motor drive.

I’m not sure of the variety or species of this one, still doing my research!!

One from the archives. This features the Sumida river in Tokyo, Japan; taken in the Asakusa district where I was staying at the time. Not sure of the name of the bridge so any thoughts do shout it out. I was attracted to this part of the river because of the bright reflections off the water.

This is a second shot from this location, featuring the boats parked in this part of the Dubai Marina. Taken during the blue hour I managed to capture the colors of this amazing place.

Colors of a Sunbird

Today's picture features a Sunbird, photographed in Tanzania, near to the Ngorongoro crater. These birds are exceptionally difficult to photograph, as they are very small and move at lightening speed. I was lucky to capture this one at rest for just a few seconds.

Colors of a Starling

The picture today is a photograph of a Starling taken near lake Naivasha in Kenya. The Starlings are numerous and come in beautiful, bright colors. This was taken when the birds were feeding near our camp site.

Canary Wharf

A photograph of a familiar landmark in London, the financial district of Canary Wharf. It's a while since I photographed this area, and since then, new buildings have been built. Work is still ongoing in this location. The picture shows Canary Wharf tower, Barclays, CIti bank and HSBC towers.
