This is not THE Les Halles of Anthony Bourdain fame (yes, I'm a big fan!); but the updated/expanded version of Boulangerie Patisserie (which was on the left there).

I don't often stop and eat during some of my quick trips to the parks. But if there's one place I will go, it's here. Check it out if you get the chance.

It's also kind of ironic that when I posted this picture a while back, I actually referenced Anthony Bourdain in the commentary.

One of my main challenges when using my UWA, is trying to keep my shadow out of the shots. In the beginning, I almost regretted the decision to get the lens, strictly because of that. On this day though, I didn't have the problem at all. And I didn't even have to sacrifice my "vision" for the shots I wanted. ;)

Monorail Monday: Just Passing By

I've had my first UWA (the Canon 10-22) for over a month, but am FINALLY getting a chance to really use it (long story... Sigma repair... UGH!!!). This was also my first time out with my new T4i. And so far, I am quite impressed with both the camera and the lens. It's also great to get a feel for them, with my Disney Cruise coming up in 2 weeks!!!! ;)

As for this shot, I just happened to see the monorail approaching as I was walking past. Since this was the only angle I could even shoot the monorail, I tried to make the most of it. Needless to say, it was a nice surprise in realizing Spaceship Earth was nicely in the frame.

I really wanted to do something that would give a shot of this resort a real beachy feel. I also wanted to make it look like it was a little closer to this beach than it actually is. It's not far away at all; but I think I "closed the gap" a little.

Swan Lake

This is definitely one of the best places to grab shots of swans (both black ones and white ones). It can be kind of intimidating though. They're so big, but let you get pretty close to them.

They also seem pretty tame. But one did do a playful (I hope) snapping at me and my daughter as we walked past. Then of course it started walking towards me as I was trying to take a pictures of a different swan. So maybe they're not all that innocent. ;)

Night launch of the SpaceX Dragon Capsule and Falcon 9 Rocket; as seen from North Orlando.

This will be delivering goods to the International Space Station.

This is the first time I've seen a rocket launch at night. It didn't light up the sky as much as the space shuttle; but it was still pretty cool to see. Great job, private industry!!!!!!!!

On Monday, we'll be spending 5 days at the Beach Club Resort. This will be our first time there, and we're REALLY looking forward to it (my wife definitely can't wait to check out the "Forbidden Pool"). Just hoping it doesn't rain too much to spoil our stay. And seeing as how I don't like to rest on vacation, I'm definitely gonna try to finally get some night shots of this area. ;)

The Softer Side To Terror

One of the nice bonuses to special events at Hollywood Studios (no more ESPN the Weekend though :( ) is that they open up the lot between the Tower of Terror and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster. This gives guests the chance to see a less menacing view of the Tower of Terror. I should note that it's not really an interesting view though. In fact, it's pretty 'blah'.

Another Note: You get to see the complete left side of the Hotel, and not just the little extra seen in this shot.

I never realized that some balconies were standing room only... until we had one. So other than stepping out to enjoy the view, or to get some pics, I don't see these being highly desireable. But I don't have any real complaints about them. I was happy using it for exactly those reasons.
