All the recent rain has ironically led to a drought of decent sunrises, so it was really satisfying to get out this morning for my first shoot of 2013 and have near perfect conditions. This was taken about an hour before sunrise. I wasn't the only one out at St Mary's this morning; it was good to catch up with John Robinson (late of this parish) and also to meet Tony Stevens.

Later on, I was joined by Allan and Phil. They'd been down at Tynemouth. Please check out their streams.

After moving round from the Old Hartley side of St Mary's Lighthouse, I actually thought the best of the light was gone. I was standing on the prom, pondering whether to pack up or find something else to do when it all kicked off. With no hope of getting around on to the rocks and there being quite a crowd of photographers already camped out on the causeway, I decided to shoot across the bay instead.
