Enjoying a quite moment around the fire. We camped on the point just north of the island and south of the other boys camp. It was windy, but a fire felt nice.

As Miles and I walked the trail into the lake we talked about many things, one of them was the pioneers. I told him how when they walked across the plains they had no wood to burn and so they burned cow pies (cow poop). There were several cow pies around the camp so I threw one on the fire as an ode to the pioneers.

I was out buying furniture last Saturday and ran across a store with all this BBQ equipment in it, so I bought their smallest charcoal Weber grill. (Gas is a horrible grill source with no taste!) They delivered it yesterday. We are lucky that in the first floor of our complex is an April Gourmet which has imported gourmet goods. I picked up some pesto, pasta and a couple of fresh salmon fillets and cooked us a nice dinner.

Our first night there we ate tinfoil dinners cooked in the fire.

Recipe :
1) tinfoil
2) hamburger
3) carrots
4) potatoes

Throw them in tinfoil and wrap up. Throw in fire. Turn with sticks a couple of times. Take out, put ketchup on them and eat! :)

If your really brave you can even cook them on the manifold of your car on cross country road trips the way my Dad did when I was a kid.

Took a group photo round the camp fire before Miles and I headed off to bed. Stewart had already hit the hay. I had to lighten this up a bit to get it to show up some folks on the last row.

John and Gavin brought hotlink hotdogs to cook for dinner. They spent some 45 minutes trying to get a fire going. I think they were gathering wood from the ground, which tended to be wet. Later on we gathered dry wood off the tops of the huckleberry bushes and had a nice fire.
