It was a cloudy afternoon. Fishermen left their boats moored and nets for drying on the bank. A village girl was sitting on a wooden country boat looking out towards the river Yamuna.

The Sundarbans (Bengali: সুন্দরবন, Shundorbôn) is the largest single block of tidal halophytic mangrove forest in the world. The Sunderbans is a UNESCO World Heritage Site covering parts of Bangladesh and India.

The Sundarban forest lies in the vast delta on the Bay of Bengal formed by the super confluence of the Padma, Brahmaputra and Meghna rivers across Saiyan southern Bangladesh. The seasonally flooded Sundarbans freshwater swamp forests lie inland from the mangrove forests on the coastal fringe. The forest covers 10,000 km2. of which about 6,000 are in Bangladesh. It became inscribed as a UNESCO world heritage site in 1997. The Sundarbans is estimated to be about 4,110 km², of which about 1,700 km² is occupied by waterbodies in the forms of river, canals and creeks of width varying from a few meters to several kilometers.

The Sundarbans National Park is a National Park, Tiger Reserve, and a Biosphere Reserve located in the Sundarbans delta. This region is densely covered by mangrove forests, and is known for the eponymous Royal Bengal Tiger (Panthera tigris tigris), as well as numerous fauna including species of birds, spotted deer, crocodiles and snakes.

This beautiful, small, natural, sweet water lake was created almost 2000 years back, on top of the Bandarban hills. It is situated about 2700 feet above sea level. Experts believe that it was created by collection of rain water in the crater of a dead volcano. Local legend is that this lake was the home of a dragon god. Every year during April - May, its otherwise crystal clear water become muddy, which also fuels the local myth.

After the monsoon, when everything on hills becomes lavishly green, this lake turns into a real beauty
( unfortunately when this photo was taken, the hills were brown immediately after winter )

Taken from my front veranda.
There is a small pond very close to my home and probably this man is a caretaker of that property. Every evening he takes out his dog in that boat for ride in that pond. Looked wonderful to share that with you !

I was doing something on my laptop, and with the fringe of my mind had also been watching a movie playing on the TV. The young bride, at the reception lunch, was giving a small speech. She was saying to her newly wed husband,

"May you never steal, lie or cheat.
But if you must steal, then steal away my sorrows.
If you must lie, lie with me in all the nights of my life.

Me and my friends went to 'Saatchhari' Rain Forest ( Hobiganj, Bangladesh ) for a day of photography and jungle trekking. The forest was out skirted by several tea gardens. It was a wonderful tour, and we spent the day and the moonlit night deep inside nature.

We were going to Tangua'r Haor ( an ecologically reserved wet land ) from Sunamganj by a boat. It was a cloudy day, and we even had a few showers of rain. At first I thought it to be flood waters, later I learned that it was a normal cycle of life for that region in that time period. The photo came from the camera almost as you see it !

It was evening, sun had already gone down. I was enjoying a boat ride with my friends on a little river in remote Bangladesh.
On the bank, this young man was taking his buffaloes home after a long day in the fields.
And on his back his little sister was taking a joy ride to home ! It was such a moment of affection and love, that despite failing light and poor focus, I had to share this moment with you.

June 24 was my son Tazrian's birthday ( he is now officially 3 years old ).

Whole day we had fun together, and in the evening I was supposed to take everyone out for a fun dinner.

At about 8.30 pm, when I was leaving my hospital, a lovely child of about same age as my son came in with a knife injury in the eye. Some how he fell on a kitchen knife while playing which deeply lacerated his right eye.

I had to go back to OT for the emergency surgery which took me about two hours. And all the while the tear stricken faces of the unfortunate parents were going through my mind.

By the time, I got back home, Tazrian was in deep sleep. I could not take him to the promised 'evening out', but I hope that someday he would really understand the reason.

Please, please save some of your prayers for that little unfortunate boy and my son!
